My name is David Mueller and I am a self-employed worker in the Gig Economy. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in owning a business. My original businesses were lemonade and coffee stands, selling duct tape wallets, and the list goes on. After high school, I went to work in IT with ambitions of starting my own company in the space. I started to grow apart from this passion and in the middle of college I was introduced to eCommerce.
Mid 2017 – I learned about dropshipping with Shopify. I launched many stores but never had much success beyond a few sales here and there. I realized that model wasn’t for me and discovered Amazon FBA. For me, this seemed like a no-brainer. You ship items to Amazon and they do all the heavy lifting. A common theme I saw for beginners was selling books. At first, this seemed far-fetched and silly until I saw the 100 book challenge by Caleb Roth (ScoutIQ). I saw that they were having good success with very little money to start. Considering I was in a similar position financially, I figured why not try it.
Mid 2018 – At this point, I’m still going to school for Network Security. I followed the steps to get my Amazon account fired up. I first scanned books with the Seller app and had no idea what I was doing – these would sell for a loss. I bought a cheap barcode scanner and got a free scanning app trial and went out on a hot day in June. This day I vividly remember. I scanned a few books, nothing. Then, I found one with expected profit of $20 – WOW! Then another profitable one, and another. At this point, my free trial had expired after X amount of scans. On the spot, I bought the subscription and never looked back. I would finish the year with about $6,000 in sales.
2019 – This is my most memorable year for this business. While I had been working as a server, I decided to dive head first into this business full-time. I burned the boats and turned up my efforts. Two days a week for ~5hrs I would shop the Goodwill Outlet where books are $0.25 per inch, other goods $1/lb. This and traveling to book sales where the best way to source inventory cheaply. I even traveled to Iowa for a sale and slept in the car to save money.
What is Monetary Ocean?
In late 2018, I had an insight about making money online. I had been watching countless hours of YouTube videos on different ways to earn money with a computer and WiFi. With these 2 assets, there is vast opportunity to earn – as vast as the ocean.
The idea of Monetary Ocean was born. My original idea was to create a community of submitters that would post different ways they made money online. I began to document everything I was doing on Instagram
